Choose your first automation by friction, not hype

A practical way to find a workflow worth improving before choosing the technology.

The best first automation is often an ordinary task that interrupts people every day. Before choosing a model or a platform, watch how the work actually moves.

Look for a repeatable handoff

Start with a workflow that has a clear trigger, a known destination and someone who can judge the output. An enquiry becoming a CRM record is easier to evaluate than a broad request to “automate sales”. Write down the current steps, the exceptions and the point at which a person makes a decision.

Define useful before you build

Choose a small measure that reflects the problem. That might be how often information needs to be re-entered or how many records arrive incomplete. Record the starting point, then test a pilot with representative examples. A narrow workflow with clear ownership creates a better foundation than a large system nobody knows how to change.
